Wakefield AFC Women’s New Managerial Appointment

Wakefield, March 5th, 2024

Wakefield AFC is pleased to announce Lee Briggs as the new manager for the Women’s first team effective immediately. Lee is a UEFA B coach and has managed Huddersfield Town Women’s Development team and Wakefield Trinity Ladies from 2018 to 2020. We also would like to thank Jordan Hartley for his dedication to the club over the last 3 years.

Lee Briggs will be responsible for the Women’s first team and will report directly to Gui Decca, Wakefield AFC Chairman and Emma Ayrton, Wakefield AFC COO.

Gui Decca, Chairman of Wakefield AFC, commented on the appointment:

“While I can see some positives in the work done over the last two years, this season progress on the Women’s side has stalled and we decided to make a change on January 26th. Since then, the girls rallied together and have won their last 4 games. I am proud of their efforts, and they should be applauded for their dedication to the club.

We believe in the women’s game and the opportunity is tremendous given we are one division below Leeds United and Newcastle. Next season, we want to build a team for committed footballers that want to train twice or three times a week, develop and help us push for promotion and a deep FA cup run.

Finally, we are happy to have Lee on board. He is experienced, enthusiastic and will be instrumental in helping us plan and prepare for next season and fully integrate the girls with the club.”

Lee Briggs commented:

“I am very happy to have joined Wakefield AFC. I am looking forward to the new challenge and the hard work has already started. We have a good group of players and will build upon that to challenge next season”
