Wakefield AFC are delighted to announce that former Yeovil Town and Doncaster Rovers player Adam Lockwood has joined the club as First Team Manager.
Lockwood, who was born and raised in Wakefield, enjoyed an accomplished footballing career with nearly 400 professional appearances, predominently with Yeovil Town & Doncaster Rovers, before moving into coaching in 2016 with National League North side, Guiesley AFC.
Lockwood is delighted to be appointed as First Team Manager: “I’m delighted to be part of the club and it’s an exciting time to be building foundations for the club to grow into something we as a city can be proud of and call our own. There is a tremendous amount of work to be done and it’s exciting to think of the potential to unite the city and surrounding areas of all age groups. We will be looking to create an environment where players have the opportunity to grow and enjoy been part of what should be an interesting journey the club has in front of it. The opportunity to become part of my home city club is great for me! The team and I will be doing our upmost to create a platform for local talent to progress and showcase themselves and form a relationship with everyone that has a connection to the club and throughout the community to achieve our goals as one.”
Former First Team Manager, Chris Turner, will step up to become the Director of Football, supporting Lockwood with coaching, training and recruiting, but also concentrating on the club as a whole. Turner added, “Mike and I discussed the future of the club at the end of our first season. We both felt that my experience and knowledge will be best utilised in recruiting investors, commercial partners and generally promoting the club here in the UK and to the greater wider world. My position of Director of Football incaptures all of that, plus I will still be involved on the football side too aiding players and staff with my experience. It gives me great pleasure in welcoming Adam Lockwood to the club as First Team Manager. He has had a great playing career with various clubs in the EFL, most notably Yeovil and Doncaster Rovers. We are delighted he has agreed to take on the position of First Team Manager with us and we wish him every success.“
