MATCH PREVIEW: Wakefield AFC vs Ecclesfield Red Rose 1915

Saturday sees our third match at home and the second on the grass pitch in view of the stadium grandstand. The last three games have been a rollercoaster, starting with a horrid 3-0 loss away to Swinton before recording our best win to date with 4-1 at home to Frecheville on the grass debut. Then, last time out at Oughtibridge, we came back from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 only to throw the win away in the dying minutes and draw 2-2.

Team physio Dalibor Mikulas has reported an almost fully fit squad with only Chris Sholu doubful with a virus. Phillip Ebuehi has completed two training sessions and is hopeful of some game time this weekend.

Ecclesfield have played six games this season, collecting two wins, one draw and three defeats. Their most recent win was away at Oughtibridge, taking the spoils 4-1. By the same measure though they were beaten 3-1 by Dodworth who we drew 3-3 with so how they play against the opposition isn’t overly significant, especially since we seem to be the team they all want to put one over on.
Their only blank score up front and/or clean sheet at the back came in the opening game of the season when they drew 0-0 with High Green Villa. Since then, all five matches have featured goals at both ends, but they’ve only scored more than two on one occasion. In contrast, they have conceded three or more on three occasions.
