IN THE SPOTLIGHT: JAMES MAKUBA

James Makuba

NEXT TO FEATURE IN OUR SPOTLIGHT IS JAMES MAKUBA!

James joined the club after spending some time as Spanish side EL Bonillo CF.

1. WHY DID YOU JOIN WAKEFIELD AFC?

I heard about the trials and when I showed up it was far better than I could’ve expected. The professional but close attitude of the managers and coaching team, the quality and input from trialist which are now players.. like I said, exceeded expectations.

2. HOW DOES WAFC COMPARE TO OTHER CLUBS YOU HAVE BEEN AT?

The biggest difference for me is again in the mixture of professionalism and culture. Having played at different levels in different countries, I have found that sometimes one goes in sacrifice for the other.

3. WHAT IS IT LIKE BEING COACHED BY EX-PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLERS?

It’s a great privilege to get insights and inputs from experienced PROs. They know what the game is about and help us develop within our personal playing styles.

4. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A GAME? DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-GAME RITUALS?

For me, the match starts the moment I step out the bed on a game day. I use music to get me in the right state of mind prior to the actual match too.

5. WHO IS THE LOUDEST OUT OF THE SQUAD?

I’d say Gerv but there are definitely a few more always joking around.

6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT (THE CITY OF) WAKEFIELD?

Unfortunately I’ve not yet seen much of the city itself due to current restrictions but I’m in love with our home ground so far.

7. WHO ARE YOUR FOOTBALLING IDOLS AND WHY?

Tough one. I’d say Ronaldinho, Messi, Zlatan and Puyol. They all played for my favourite team and their careers and character speak for them.

8. WHICH FOOTBALL TEAM DO YOU SUPPORT AND WHY?

F.C. Barcelona. They’ve been my favourite club since started playing at 4.

9. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF FOOTBALL?

I like training in the gym as well as playing music from time to time.

10. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS’ TIME?

Maybe as professional footballer but who knows what life has in store for me. I’m proactively working towards that but even if we plan and execute, at the end of the day the only certainty we have is in the present moment.
