WAKEFIELD AFC v LOUTH TOWN MATCHPREVIEW

With back-to-back wins in the league and a win in the cup under their belt in recent weeks, The Falcons are firing on all cylinders as we enter the third calendar month of the campaign.

Wakefield now finds themselves sitting in the middle reaches of the NCEL Division One, with at least one game in hand on the vast majority of the league.

And with all the building optimism in the camp, we host Lincolnshire side Louth Town this Saturday at the Millenium Stadium for the first of seven games in a very busy September for the club, thanks to progression in two cup competitions.

OUR LAST MATCH

The Falcons headed to the moors of Ilkley for an all-Yorkshire clash in front of 145 fans, as they took on Ilkley Town, who had started strongly and found themselves in the play-off positions, as of kick-off.

But that did not faze the men in white, blue, and red as Mason Rubie and a brace from new signing James Eyles – who continues to make his mark at his new club – sealed all three points away on the road.

Wakefield’s first two goals came without reply before Ilkley brought one back to make the score 2-1 before Wakey bagged a third in the dying embers to seal their third win in a row in all competitions.

OUR OPPONENTS

Louth Town sits three places above Wakefield, with an additional two points on the board after playing an extra two games. On paper, this makes it an even tie, but with momentum on The Falcons’ side, they’ll be hoping to make it a third league win on the spin.

Louth’s form has been slightly patchier of late, with two wins in their last six. Their last three games have seen a complement of all three eventualities, with a win, a loss, and a draw against Swallownest, Heanor Town, and South Leeds respectively.

PAST MEETINGS

Granted, it’s a small sample size but Wakefield heads into this tie unbeaten against their opponents with two wins from two and a superior goal difference of 6 Wakefield goals compared to just a solitary goal from Louth Town.

6th April 2024 — Wakefield AFC 4 – 1 Louth Town

5th November 2023 — Louth Town 0 – 2 Wakefield AFC
