It’s more cup action for The Falcons this weekend, as Wakey return to Belle Vue for one final time to take on 1874 Northwich in the FA Vase Trophy.
After progressing in the NCEL League Cup First Round, Wakefield will be looking to advance in their second cup competition of the new season, for a traditional Saturday 3pm kick off in WF1.
The game will give the club easement from the league, which has so far been a difficult start. However, The Falcons will be hoping that another cup win will get the season moving ahead of an action-packed September, which will see six fixtures being played out – including another tie in the NCEL League Cup.
OUR LAST MATCH
Wakefield were back on the road and away at one of Harrogate’s clubs, Railway Athletic. The game marked a third defeat of the season, with the Railwaymen coming away 3-1 winners with two late goals after a Jack Durkin equaliser.
The game put a stop to momentum that was building in the club, after two back-to-back wins in the league and cup. But The Falcons were unable to build on that, and saw defeat, which puts the club in the relegation zone – albeit at a very early stage in the season.
OUR OPPONENTS
The Cheshire-based side 1874 Northwich currently play in The Midland League, after being relegated from the NPL Division One West last season.
And they come as formidable opponents as they’re currently unbeaten in both the league and cup so far this season, notching up two league wins and two wins in the FA Cup.
So far, they’ve scored eight goals in those four games, conceding three and keeping one clean sheet.
