WAKEFIELD AFC v HARROGATE RAILWAY MATCH PREVIEW

The Falcons return to league action this Saturday after doing the double over Dronfield Town, rounded off with an emphatic 4-2 win on Tuesday night in the NCEL League Cup.

This weekend’s opponents will see us travel from West to North Yorkshire, as we take on one of Harrogate’s two clubs, Harrogate Railway Athletic for a 3pm kick off.

On the road for the second weekend in a row, Wakey will be looking to build on the momentum growing within the club, to chalk up a second win of the season.

The season began slowly, but with a first league win on the board, progression into the next round of the cup and a new signing this week, things are looking on the up as the games come thick and fast in the opening month.

OUR LAST MATCH

Wakefield returned to the Millenium Stadium in Featherstone, the Falcons’ home for the next two years following a club announcement. And the big return to WF5 was marked with a strong win in the NCEL League Cup against Dronfield.

The game began with an early contender for goal of the season, as the Wakefield Messi aka Jaydan Sandhu carried the ball all the way from the halfway line to the edge of the box, before curling a beautiful shot into the top corner, much to the delight of those in attendance.

Wakefield were flying and quickly two goals up as Sandhu got involved with another, setting up Losa from a free-kick. Dronfield then finalised the first half with two goals in the space of six minutes to make things all square at the interval.

Despite the setback, Wakefield came out strong in the second half and were quickly back in front as Losa grabbed his second of the game, before an absolute wonder pass from Kiyani Morris – which took around six Dronfield players out of the game – set up Steve Smith who slotted one home to round off an impressive win in yet another pulsating game with Dronfield.

OUR OPPONENTS

Harrogate Railway Athletic have started similarly to The Falcons, with four points on the board compared to our three.

The Railwaymen kicked off their season with a strong 3-0 win against Selby, but have since failed to register a win in the league with a draw against Swallownest and two losses against Shelley and South Leeds respectively.

They did however grab a 1-0 win in the League Cup during the midweek, which also saw them register their first clean sheet of the season.

Ones to watch: Desmond Okoro, their top scorer, who has notched up three goals in the space of three league games.
