MATCH PREVIEW: Burngreave vs Wakefield AFC

LEAGUE CUP, SHEFFIELD & HALLAMSHIRE COUNTY
Saturday 27th September 2019
2:00pm Kick Off
Firvale Academy

FORM

Wakefield’s last three games have seen twelve goals scored and just three conceded, a great improvement on the three before that which were six for and eight against. This is our first match in the League Cup but the last three league games provided two wins and a draw so the team is in good spirits. It is also worth noting the team’s never say die spirit after the Reserves came back from 2-0 and 3-1 down in midweek to win 4-3 at home to Clay Cross Town in the Midlands Floodlit Cup.

SQUAD NEWS

Team physio Dalibor Mikulas has reported that Michael Owusu is still injured so will not feature in the weekend’s action. Manager Chris Turner confirmed left back Jack Enkh was also not involved so there will an opportunity for someone else to fill the left back slot for the first time this season.

OPPOSITION

Burngreave have played seven league games this season and until last weekend things had not gone well for them. After six games they were bottom of the table with six defeats however at no time were they on the end of an absolute spanking. The biggest margin of defeat was two goals against North Gawber (1-3) and Penistone (2-4) with the other four by a single goal. Last weekend they faced Dodworth who before then had three wins and three draws from seven games but upset the odds with a 4-3 win at home. It makes Saturday’s match even harder to predict; was last week’s win a flash in the pan or the victory which will kick-start their season? Wakefield fans will be hoping for the former.

The team are in only their third season together now and have already won back to back promotions from the lower two divisions, pipping Ecclesfield Red Rose 1915 to the Division One title last season by two points.
